Are Almonds Heavily Sprayed?

Dungeon Crawl Classics from Goodman Games

Well, it still is not dead, the OGL scene. Goodman Games taught me a lesson and tries to now, after the very successful Paizo Pathfinder, with a modified d20 game called Dungeon Crawl Classics .

The presentation of the website and the announcement (see also the Design Diary below), however, differ greatly from those that are found at Paizo - Goodman Games played here in optics and keywords clearly the wave of Retro clones, it has made in recent years the rounds of the scene.

quote the announcement:

"Open Play Test : The core rules for the DCC RPG will be released in a free, open play test in mid-2011 Watch this page for more details.."

This is obviously an attempt to build on a successful PR campaign Pathfinders with the open beta versions - and who would blame Goodman Games. An open beta is a lot of publicity within the online scene and produces reasonably educated people getting to know about the appearance of the finished product is equal to where to go.

design Diary # 1: What It Is, And What It Is not (Link to GG Forum)

"It is compatible with other GeneRally d20-derived systems."

That sounds not bad on the one, you can be hoarded d20 books so any further use. However, I am very skeptical after Pathfinder, if this statement is made, as well Paizo claimed their offspring would be compatible and he is also really only on paper - even if they use the same format for Monster Statblocks and Feats / Spells of the same name indicates the hundreds of small changes under the hood make compatibility only possible if too much time or any such inconsistencies do not matter. But this is not particularly elegant (and elegance is something that simply lack the d20 system to a large extent).

"It does not include complexities like attacks of opportunity, prestige classes, feats, or skill points."

How this statement should now unite with the above, remains a mystery to me. Especially since I Skills and Feats of essential elements of the d20 system hold. Of course, I can speculate at this time only because I like everyone else had any insights into DCC, but I wonder now whether the project is slow not only because of an OGL OGL label.

doing since in any case to an interesting development for the still young year.
